We know that many of the visitors to Norwich are avid culture vultures. It’s no surprise, with some of the biggest and best shows dropping on tour in Norwich every year. So here’s the creme of the crop for when you next come to Norwich:
For Families
The smash hit musical Matilda, penned by comedian Tim Minchin, is racing into Norwich from Tuesday 16th July – Saturday 17th August. It’s based on Roald Dahl’s beloved book about a little girl with a love of reading and big magical powers.
This is one that will have adults loving the smart lyrics while the kids will love the heroine’s triumph over the evil Trunchbull. Just make sure that no-one’s naughty enough to miss out!
A License to Thrill
If you like your theatre dark and intriguing, why not watch Death and the Maiden at Norwich Garage on Friday the 5th of July?
This is the darkest one on our list, but it’s still a cracker. Set in a Latin American country after a dictator’s regime has fallen, this is smart psychological theatre that will make you think while you drink.
Shake it up with Shakespeare
Shakespeare is coming to Norwich in full force this year, with shows from Matthew Bourne’s ballet of Romeo and Juliet to Much Ado about Nothing.
But our pick for the best of the bard is the double bill of Macbeth and a Midsummer Night’s Dream that’s stopping off at Theatre Royal as part of it’s national tour. Catch it from Tuesday 15th – Saturday 19th October.
For Little Ones
You don’t have to be greedy to love the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and his journey through food. This stage show packs even more in, going through the stories of Brown Bear, 10 Little Rubber Ducks and more.
Packed with lovingly created puppets, this is sure to be a brilliant 50th Birthday bash for our wriggly star. Best of all is that kids under 2 go free if sitting on a parent’s lap for the performance. You can get watching from the Wednesday the 3rd – Sun 7th July.
The Most Unusual
A huge hit across the pond, where he wowed audiences on America’s got Talent, Tape face is sure to wow with zany humour when he comes to the Norwich Playhouse Mon 16th Sep to Wed 18th Sep.
With excellent timing, great physical comedy and props, this show is the perfect opportunity to watch the very best of the wacky and weird!
