Scenic Summer pubs in Norwich
Norwich is famous for its pubs – there’s meant to be one for every day of the year! Here’s our pick of the best places to get a pint in the summer sun while you’re meeting your mates.
Britannia Gardens
This has extensive outdoor seating – which works well with its main appeal of a beautiful location. Overlooking the river wensum and Anderson’s meadow, there’s almost nowhere better to get away from it all and sip outside the summer sun.
The Red Lion
This is yet another lovely pub that benefits from being a stone’s throw from the river wensum – this time only a short walk away from the beautiful pulls ferry and Cow Tower. You can eat a delicious lunch overlooking bishop’s bridge before you set out for an afternoon walk. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, even start your pub and paddle adventure – rent a canoe which you can use to explore the pubs across the riverside.
The Playhouse
An arty favourite in the heart of the city, it’s beautifully decorated inside, with a gorgeous garden outside – if you can manage to find a spot! Also a local favourite, you’ll have to time your visit well, but if you manage to get in then it’s well worth it. The buzzing, vibrant atmosphere might even inspire you to book a ticket to one of their many theatre shows too!
The Alexandra Tavern
If you want to go somewhere outside of the main city, you could certainly do worse than the quaint and cosy Alexandra Tavern. Just off Earlham road, this is a pub with plenty of trinkets, cheap drinks and filling food. Plus a pub cat! What more could you wish for?
The Wig and Pen
A 17th Century freehouse a short walk from the Cathedral, this is the perfect place for a quick relax before you start up the shopping spree again. It offers succulent food like seafood terrine, and some of its high quality beers come with the opportunity to try before you buy.
William and Florence
Another one outside the city centre, this is a pretty gastropub right in walking distance of number 82. With a spacious outdoor area, expansive canopy and outdoor heating, this is a great spot to settle down in when the weather turns more ‘British.’ Even better, it’s owned by Adnams, the renowned Norfolk brewery. You can even indulge in bottomless brunch on Sundays. Delicious.
